A week after a tragedy

On Monday 8/5 I heard this song for the first time on the way to work.
I used this song to make it a better week for me.

On 8/3 and 8/4 2019 we experienced a weekend of horrific mass shootings in America.
I do not want to point fingers and blame so I turned to the Gospels this week for readings to reflect on what happened.

Saturday 8/3 before the events, the Gospel was Matthew 14:1-12
The story of Herod and John the Baptist, and his horrific death.
Who asks for the head of a human being on a platter? Herodias' daughter did.
This is proof we need to spread love to and through our Children.
Who were the parents of these shooters? Did they know, did they think like the kids, did they have any red flags?  Love must start from the home.

Sunday 8/4 Luke 12:13-21
"But God said to him, you fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared to whom do they belong"
"Thus will it be for all who store up treasure for themselves but are not rich in what matters to God"
Is this God telling us the results of being selfish? For those that eat, drink and be merry with material goods or earthly possessions, is this God telling us to share?  The events in Dayton happened at a bar at 1am. What were each victim there to celebrate? What was their week like before?
We have so many questions in the first 24 hours after tragedy.  In the next coming days, what do the Gospel readings say?

Monday 8/5 Matthew 14: 13-21
Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist and withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself.
How many others heard about the news on Monday morning before work and wanted to be alone and withdraw to comprehend this?

Tuesday 8/6 Luke 9:28b-36
Todays Gospel starts with  Jesus, John and James and went up to the mountain to pray.  How many of us turned to prayer for answers this day?

Wednesday 8/7 Matthew 15: 21-28
The sentence before the reading says, "For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, unchastity, theft and false witness, blasphemy; these are what defile ..."
Then Jesus withdrew again to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
Seems like everything we Christians do not like Jesus did not either and he withdrew again.
If evil comes from someone's heart, do we withdrawl ourselves from our lack of response before and after?

Thursday 8/8 Matthew 16:13-23
"Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and he asked his disciples"
Jesus is again traveling to withdraw to prayer. This time with disciples.
After we want to be alone and withdrawl, is then when we seek solace in others to deal with grief?

The first four days are a lot like starting the grief process; being alone, withdrawing, going away with others.

But do you know how each of those four Gospels ended?
IN MIRACLES.
Miracles like the five loaves and two fish, the transfiguration and healing.
Thursday's Gospel ends with, "Get behind me Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do."
Is this the day we start to feel acceptance from the weekend?

On Friday 8/9 we start to get answers and understanding in Matthew 16: 24-28
God tells us we all have our cross to bear. We must take up our cross, deny oneself and follow Him.
If we lose our earthly life we save it in heaven.
If we want to save our earthly life, we lose it in heaven.
This is our afterlife - accepting our challenges on Earth like Jesus did his cross for spiritual redemption in Heaven.

On Saturday 8/10 John 12:24-26
We hear John's version of whoever loves his life losses it, and whoever hates his life in this world preserves it for eternal life.
You cannot serve two Masters on earth and in heaven.
One of them will be lacking.  If you struggle on Earth, have Faith for a reward in heaven.

Sunday 8/11 Luke 12:32-48
Have we hit the acceptance stage yet?
God is trying to help us get through the week.
He starts off saying "Do not be afraid"
"For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be"
Is your treasure on Earth or in heaven?
What do you do and value on Earth to end up with in heaven?
This week ends with, "Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more
will be demanded of the person entrusted with more"

If we are rich in spirit and knowledge of the Lord, share what we have with those who are lost.
What are we doing to help others with our treasures on Earth so we have enjoy our heavenly reward.

These readings of Faith and positivity have helped me.
I hope this helps you too.
