To be continued ......
Speaking of less materialism ...
It is 4/17/20 and I have been working from home remotely under a Stay at Home Order during the Corona Virus Pandemic in our country. I work at an essential local news operations behind the scenes in the business office so I can work from home and continue to be productive. I am grateful and blessed for that.
I am still trying to stay in regular habits of healthy meals and exercise during the week, only eating out on weekends and at least 1 a weekend. I am still trying to keep my indulgence in the wine and bourbon collection on weekends. I am desperately trying to avoid the Quarantine Fifteen.
I live in a suburban retail residential complex, so my 60,000 steps a week is usually doing laps around the outdoor mall. It is surreal seeing the retail stores and mall empty on a beautiful day.
Except the Cheesecake Factory, they have been busy with to go orders through all of this and have developed an organizational system for pick up with 15 numbered parking spots that makes the Type A German in me happy with efficient practices. The Taco shop was empty until the state passed a law that alcoholic drinks can be sold 1 per meal to go, they are busy now but not as organized as the Cheesecake Factory.
One thing this humbling experiences is showing me, and I hope others is the difference between needs and wants. The in demand, essential items right now like groceries and toilet paper show us what we need to survive. The wants in our life are put on hold.
In reference to my last post of getting back to basics is what is needed in our country right now, this stay at home order is helping I think.
is it any wonder why we are here?
Remember Summer 2019 when the Bluebell Licker in Texas made national news, and there were articles and headlines about food tampering in the grocery store. That was not good and quite sad. But clearly there were people in the population last year who did not concern themselves with cleanliness, hygiene and good health.
China probably saw this in the news last year, laughed at us and got to work on a Virus in the lab and Fall 2019 they had something and something got released in Wuhan in the late Fall and started a pandemic.
I hope we as a country can reevaluate priorties, needs and get back to basics about what is really important in life. Family, Faith, Love, Honest work, Ethics, Integrity. These are not bad words and can help us all get along smoothly.
