Respect Life Sunday, Respect Life Month

Today at Church was Respect Life Sunday, kicking off Respect Life Month.
While life is not the only issue pressing in these pre-election days, it is something to think about.

Here is a blurb from Wikipedia about "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness"

"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness " is one of the most famous phrases in the United States Declaration of Independence. These three aspects are listed among the "inalienable rights" of man
The phrase is based on the writings of John Locke, who expressed a similar concept of "life, liberty, and estate (or property)". Locke said that "no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions."[1]
Written by Thomas Jefferson, the words in the Declaration were a departure from the orthodoxy of Locke. Locke's phrase was a list of property rights a government should guarantee its people; Jefferson's list, on the other hand, covers a much broader spectrum of rights, possibly including the guarantees of the Bill of Rights such as free speech and a fair trial.

SG:
The founding fathers build this country on the truth from the word of God. The Old testament books of the law mirror our constitution. We left England for Religious Freedom to Worship.
The further we pull away from a foundation, we risk destroying a nation.

One thing the priest mentioned in his homily today is that Respect for Life is respect for all life, not some life. One thing that Catholics are good about is consistency, no matter how unpopular a belief is in popular culture, you have to pick one theme and practice it in ALL aspects. And that means respecting human life from conception to euthanasia, respecting what has a heart beat.
I am not bashing democraps but there beliefs do hold some inconsistencies between circumstances. And if science is so compelling for evolutional theories, why isn't science compelling for pregnancies when the babies heart is beating and its not considered a person ?
Now if people still feel the need to have an abortion thats on their own conscience and I am not going to tell people what to do but they need to know what they are doing and who it affects ... they should not have people telling them its your choice no one else is involved, well there is someone else involved, someone smaller so dont make the choice without considering both people. Maybe its three (mom, dad and baby) and Maybe its two (mom and baby) but the later should be considered as a person, scientifically speaking. I am not telling anyone what to do, just consider it with more of an open heart and mind. If you are not ready for a baby, there a lots of loving couples who are and can not have their own.

I think I agree with Jefferson's interpretation of Pursuit of Happiness. Locke says everyone has a right to property but fiscally speaking property management is economics and being involved in the economy is not an inalienable right but something to pursue and work for.
Locke probably also would have been in favor of public housing complexes and we know how that turns out. Another foundation of our country is immigration ... pursuit of happiness and success when you come over on the boat, or swim or smuggle over, whichever. The Irish Immigrants came over a build canals and rivers and learned skilled trades and The Asain Immigrants come over and succeeded in our education system as valedictorians, professors and researchers better than some of our own.
The African Immigrants came over granted as slaves but they worked hard, LEARNED a skill and thanks to Lincoln became free so something good came out of it and they became skilled laborers, which may I remind them that their own leaders got them into it. (Can't they focus on the positives, I dont owe your people sh*t, think about where you'd be without it and Thank God,would they rather be home with the aids infected monkeys and mosquitos). Our country should expect NOTHING less from Hispanic immigrants in the current immigration issue.
Other immigrants learn the English language, why should we expect Hispanics not to and cater to them in spanish language media outlets, masses, signs, public schools and events ? Hispanics will have a better pursuit of happiness and success when they embrace our culture, language and land. Stop asking me to repeat my order at a restaurant if you can't understand me ... stop the language barrier. Its America, we speak English. Our kids take test in English in the school system and parents are expected to speak to their teachers in English at Parent /Teacher conferences in the Chicago Public School System.

One thing I am going to think about this month is which candidate best exemplifies the phrase "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" and which candidate can practice it best.

One more thing to think about realistically: Vote for which VP you like most too, with a possibility of Obama being assassinated (see JFK) and McCain having health issues, their Veeps may have more power than any other VP. VP competency and likability may be important here.
* Legal Jargon: I am not saying I will assassinate B.O. but in all likelihood there are some crazy KKK southerners out there and people like John Wilkes Booth and I would not be surprised *

Just something for you to consider in the days to come before 11/4.

Joanna-

I appreciated your comments. I think it will be hard for me to find 1 canidate that I agree with 100%. I agree and disagree with both canidates on some of the main issues. So I think for me, I had to make a list and the pros and cons and from there, I had to make the best educated decision I knew how to make. With all that is going on in the world right now, it is hard for me to vote (or not vote) for a canidate based on the person's view of an issue such as abortion (but at the same time, obviously because of my beliefs, this is a key issue). I do not agree that our government should subsidise abortions. As a tax-payer, I do not think I should have to assist someone in murding another human being. But I do not believe it is the government's position to decide for me. I think we would all like to believe that we do not believe in situational ethics, but let me just say that after what happended to me in the past year, until you are faced with the situation itself, it is at that point that you find out with it is you truly believe (and I am so thankful to the Lord that He was watching over me and that I was spared from having to make that decision).

You are also correct in stating that Locke's phrase was a list of property rights a government should guarantee its people; Jefferson's list, on the other hand, covers a much broader spectrum of rights, possibly including the guarantees of the Bill of Rights such as free speech and a fair trial. It never stated that we were promised anything, but that we would have the right to pursue Happiness, something that is different for all people. For all the doctors and lawyers and CEO's of our great counry, Obama wishes to steal from those people to help the homeless on the streets who have decided to they don't need to work because their government has said they will take care of them with all of their pretty-packaged socialisic programs (a Robin Hood program). When Obama was in the Senate, he voted on 4 seperate occasions in favor of higher taxes for citizens who made $40,000/ year income..since when is making $40,000/ year considered "rich" and secondly, this now limits the amount of "happiness" that people can pursue.

I had left a long message but lost it. Let me sum up:

read Locke's 'Second Treatise of Government'

Fight abortion at all costs, it is a reprehensible attack upon humanity

Locke would not have approved of public housing, for it was man's labor that made something his property.

Obama is a Marxist and the antithesis of the philosphy of Locke (and every other great writer which contributed to the foundation of the US).
