Following your passion

I just got off the phone with a good friend in Dallas and we discussed what we really want to do in our jobs. What is the #1 reason why we stall our dreams, prolong our passion or maybe do not know what that is. Too some extent it is fear. Fear that if we take the leap, we won't have a back up, we won't have anything to fall back on. Fear we will fail.

I hate to use TV as a metaphor for life (who am I kidding ... hate?) but the finale of HIMYM this season mentioned this same topic. Not every life goes as planned. Our life is not a blueprint we create and we follow the plans. Our life is a blueprint that God creates. God is the architect. We are the building materials and we have to have faith that the builder is putting us together to create an awesome building that we will be a part of. As part of the building, we may plan for ourselves to be a part of a grandiose cathedral in Europe where everyone will flock to and take pictures. But the builder wants us to be a ranch house in West Texas, 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, with a sunroom.
That was not part of our plan. But the builder has a reason for it.

So, what is one to do when your life has not gone as planned ?

It is easy to SAY keep the faith. But actually keeping the faith day by day can be a struggle.
So life did not go as planned. We have to take a leap of faith, stay the course and have a lot of trust. We walk by faith, not by sight. God is the vine, we are the branches.

Sometimes taking a leap and straying from the plan can reap the best rewards.

When I graduated from college and moved to Dallas my Dad said it was like Grad school, go to work for a few years and go back home. Well after 5 1/2 years in Dallas I took a leap to Chicago.
Not part of the original plan from the Father (the earthly one) but one I had to explore.
I am not quite sure of the rewards from the leap other than a long tangent on what I do not want to do for another 9 years but I have to have faith that when I look back on it 10 years from now, it will have been a good choice.

Now back to my leap. There is a leap I want to take by the end of the year. Wish me luck.

Good luck, whatever it is (although I feel like I might have an inkling of an idea...)
