Ladies,
Stop freaking out.
Let's talk about rights versus privledge.
You have the right to vote. The right to freedom of speech. The right to bear arms (let's face it, against attackers at night, this is the ultimate self defense if you so choose it).
You do not have the right to drive. Driving is a privledge you have to earn and learn the laws, pass the test and stay safe on the road to continue to do so.
You do not have the right to an abortion or the birth control pill.
You have freewill to make a choice to do either of these things.
Upon making this choice (or any choice for that matter), you will have to learn to live with the consequences.
Employment is a privledge for those that have worked hard at school and training and earned it, or applied for it and won it. Health Insurance is a benefit of this employment. Employers vie for job candidates and offer benefits to woo employees. This insurance is not a right, it is a benefit.
Even if you do not have a job, you can still call Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Healthcare for an individual policy. That is possible. And health insurance does help defray expenses.
So, have you figured out where I am going with this yet. You do NOT have the right to get free birth control from your employer. Health care is a cost to your employer. GM's highest operating cost is the cost of healthcare. The higher the health care cost increase for a company, the higher their cost and the money will need to come from increased revenue and if it does not, it can impact incomes and raises.
If this ruling brings anything to our attention, it should be the ultimate problem with the health care insurance industry that Obamacare did not fix. What is the ultimate problem with the healthcare industry ? Check back tomorrow to find out for a continued blog post about that !!!
It also makes me want to ask: Are the millennials and women so complacent with benefits and privledges today that benefits are becoming expected and demanded? Are benefits becoming entitlements now the further we get away from how they originated in history ? Are these entitlements being used as pawns to get women voting for one political party? This also sounds like another question to dive into in part 3 of this blog series.
