12/14/12 - Tragedy in Newtown, CT. Another Mass shooting in the news and this time affecting innocent children.
12/16/12 - Today's Gospel Luke 3:10-18
The crowd asked John the Baptist, "What should we do?"
This question is first appropriate for Advent as we await Jesus' Birthday and Prepare the way of the Lord and just like many of us do in Advent, John answers to share your coats and food if you have extra with someone who has none.
This question is secondly appropriate because for the last two days, many people have not only been asking "Why?" after Friday's events but also, "What do we do next?"
There have been MANY opinions posted on Facebook and MANY people think they are right.
Some more arrogant and posting more frequently than others.
Think about how the Gospel passage reads at a part:
"Now the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ. John answered them all saying, "I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming .... He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."
And in Advent, I shall focus on the 'one mightier than I is coming' part.
The one mightier than I is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, not mine.
The one mightier than I is coming, coming soon for a birthday celebration we are to prepare for and coming soon to show us the Kingdom of God.
The best answer to what should we do might lie in Gospel.
Trust in the Lord, Believe in the Lord and have Faith in himand let the one mightier than I worry about the worldly weights.
